The world's first spatial audio compatible portable Bluetooth speaker 'Anker Soundcore Motion X600' review

Home appliance manufacturer Anker's audio equipment brand 'Soundcore' released the world's first portable Bluetooth speaker ' Soundcore Motion X600 ' that supports spatial audio on May 29, 2023. I actually tried using the Soundcore Motion X600, a flagship model of a portable Bluetooth speaker that can realize stereophonic sound that sounds like sound pouring from 360 degrees with Anker's original algorithm and 5 drivers.

The package of Soundcore Motion X600 looks like this.

The 'Hi-Res Audio' brand logo was drawn on the package, indicating that it satisfies the licensing conditions for

high-resolution audio specified by the Japan Audio Association. The Soundcore Motion X600 is equipped with the LDAC codec, and can transmit up to about three times the amount of information compared to the standard codec of Bluetooth A2DP , SBC (328 kbps, 44.1 kHz), so even with wireless connection, it reproduces clear music close to the original sound.

When you open the inner box, the main body wrapped in vinyl appears.

Below the main unit there was a quick start guide, a warranty card, and a USB-C cable used for charging.

This is the main body of Soundcore Motion X600. There are three colors, space gray, green, and blue, and this time we will review space gray.

The size of the Soundcore Motion X600 is 31.1 cm wide x 17.1 cm deep x 8.1 cm high, and it looks like this when aligned with the iPhone 12 mini with a long side of 131.5 mm. '3D metal mesh that creates a sense of luxury' is used, and the front of the speaker grill is made of metal and has a matte texture.

back. The Soundcore Motion X600 has a fixed handle that makes it easy to carry around.

There is a highly airtight rubber lid on the lower left when facing the back. Under the lid there was a USB-C port for charging and input and a 3.5mm audio terminal for voice input. The playback time with the built-in battery is about 12 hours, and when the spatial audio function and BassUP function are turned on, it can be played for up to 9 hours. The time required to fully charge the battery is nominally about 6 hours.

I took a picture of the top. Soundcore's brand logo is drawn on the handle.

The operation panel on the top of the main unit looks like this. There is a speaker in the center, and there are operation buttons on the left and right. From the left, the operation buttons are the power button, Bluetooth button, spatial audio button, BassUp button, volume down button, play/pause button, and volume up button.

There were four rubber feet on the bottom. If you look closely, you can see that the rubber feet have two protrusions, and it seems that the Soundcore Motion X600 main unit and the floor have been devised to reduce the installation area as much as possible.

The actual weight is 1.95 kg. It may be relatively large and heavy for a portable Bluetooth speaker.

It's easy to use, just turn on the power by pressing the power button on the far left of the top panel. When not linked with a device, it automatically enters Bluetooth pairing mode.

Looking at the iPhone's Bluetooth setting screen, Soundcore Motion X600 was recognized, so tap it. The connection is now automatically completed.

The following movie shows where the Soundcore Motion X600 was started and the song was actually played. It's hard to tell because it was recorded with a camera microphone, but when I played it back in a room of about 20 tatami mats, I got the impression that the sound could be heard from all directions, and the bass sounded like it resonated with my body. With a speaker output of 50W and a frequency range of 50Hz to 40kHz, you can feel a stable sound anywhere in the room, rather than the ``thin sound due to lack of power'' that is common with portable speakers. In the movie, the spatial audio button and BassUp button are switched on and off, but when the spatial audio button is switched, the difference is clearly visible in the movie sound.

Soundcore Motion X600 can adjust the equalizer by connecting with the Soundcore official app.

Soundcore-Apps on Google Play

This time I tried using the iOS version. Open the distribution page of the official app on the App Store and tap 'Get'.

When you install and start the application, the terms of use and privacy policy will be displayed, so tap 'Agree and continue'.

Account registration is required to use the official app. In order to register with an Apple account this time, I chose 'Login with Apple'.

Since the tutorial is displayed, tap 'Skip' in the upper right.

You will be asked to use Bluetooth, so tap 'OK'.

Select the leftmost icon in the bottom menu and tap 'Add Device'.

Tap 'Headphone, Speaker, and Frames'.

If the Soundcore Motion X600 is connected to the iPhone via Bluetooth, 'Motion X600' will be displayed, so tap it.

Then, the management screen of 'Motion X600' was displayed. To edit the equalizer, tap 'Equalizer' at the bottom of the screen.

Five types of presets are registered in the equalizer. The default looks like this.

Bass enhancement

voice

treble boost

balance

Tap 'Custom' at the bottom of the screen to edit the equalizer yourself.

Return to the management screen and tap the gear icon in the upper right to check the firmware etc.

On the firmware confirmation screen, you could turn on/off voice prompts, button brightness, auto power off, update firmware, etc.

The Soundcore Motion X600 is a portable Bluetooth speaker that can be carried around, but since it is the world's first to support spatial audio, I got the impression that it is more effective when used indoors. Not only is the sound quality good, but the sound pressure is also solid, so you can fully enjoy music even in a large living room. It's easy to connect, and it's nice to be able to easily adjust the equalizer using the app. Both the speaker and the app have a simple UI and are easy to use, so even beginners can easily handle them.
