On June 10, 2023, seven guests who dined at Nikko - Japanese Steak House, a steakhouse and sushi bar in Pace, Santa Rosa County, Florida, USA, fell ill and were taken to Santa Rosa Medical Center, where they later found themselves on drugs. I tested positive. Reportedly, all seven people dined at the same table.

Subsequent investigations found

the stimulant methamphetamine in the soy sauce dispensers in the store and in the takeout soy sauce. It is unknown why the store's soy sauce was contaminated with stimulants, but the investigative report stated that multiple employees 'behaved strangely and went in and out of the room saying they were looking for something.' stated to have testified. However, although the sheriff's office interviewed one suspect, the investigation was terminated because criminal charges were not filed due to lack of strong evidence and surveillance camera footage.

Nikko, where this incident occurred, is a shop where a person named Fernando Chavez started management as Nikko Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar in 2009. After that, Mr. Ursula Piño, who took over the management right in August 2013, has applied to the authorities to open a store called Nikko of Pace in the same place. The owner and registered name of the restaurant have changed many times, but the signboard of the restaurant has remained unchanged since its opening: 'Nikko Japanese Sushi Bar.' The store also said on its Facebook page, 'We are a family-run store serving the Pace family.'

All seven people who were hospitalized after the incident were discharged by June 14. Florida health officials approved Nikko's reopening on June 14, although the source of the stimulants remains unclear.

Although Nikko was able to reopen in this way, about a month later, on July 7th, he announced that he would be closing the store because he could not maintain the cost to continue operating.

In a post on Facebook, the owner of the store spelled out the reason for closing the store and the disappointment as follows. “We have been serving people in the Pace area for over 10 years, but we have decided to close Nikko Japanese Steakhouse. We learned on the news that a customer who dined at was feeling ill, and from the moment it was reported, we have been cooperating with all authorities and licensing agencies, and the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office has responded to the charges against our restaurant. It was determined that there was nothing to connect, and after a clear investigation by the health department, we resumed operations. We are very grateful to all the regular customers who came to support us, but unfortunately we cannot continue to operate. was not enough for

Nikko's owner also said he had been harassed, including home harassment, for closing the family business and leaving 20 employees out of work 'due to the power of social media.' And after revealing that he was struggling with the persistent reports of the local news media, he concluded, 'Please respect our privacy.'
