On June 1, 2023, OpenAI launched a cybersecurity grant program. About this program, OpenAI said, ``It is a $ 1 million (about 139 million yen) initiative to enhance and quantify AI-based cybersecurity capabilities and promote high-level AI and cybersecurity discussions.'' I'm explaining.

The cybersecurity grant program launched by OpenAI aims to achieve the following three goals.

1: Empower the defender
We want our cutting-edge AI capabilities to benefit defenders first and foremost.

2: Functional measurement
In order to better understand and improve the effectiveness of AI models, we will work on developing methods to quantify the cybersecurity capabilities of AI models.

3: Raise the level of discussion
Dedicated to facilitating rigorous discussion of AI and cybersecurity and fostering a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this area.

``The conventional view in cybersecurity is that the natural environment favors attackers over defenders,'' said OpenAI. There is something more valuable, that is, cooperativeness toward security,' he said, pointing out that the current state of cybersecurity is 'in favor of the attackers.'

OpenAI proposes the following ideas for this program:

Collect and label data from cybersecurity defenders and train defender cybersecurity personnel.
Detect and mitigate social engineering tactics.
• Automate incident triage.
- Identify security issues in the source code.
• Assist in network or device forensics.
・Automatically patch vulnerabilities.
Optimize patch management processes to improve prioritization, scheduling and deployment of security updates.
・Developing or improving sensitive computing on GPUs.
• Create honeypots and deception technologies to misdirect or entrap attackers.
Assists in reverse engineering signature creation and behavior-based detection of malware.
・Analyze the organization's security controls and compare them with the compliance system.
Helping developers create software that is secure by design and secure by default.
• Help end-users adopt security best practices.
Assist security engineers and developers in creating robust threat models.
Generates threat intelligence with critical and relevant information for defenders, tailored to your organization.
• Help developers port their code to memory-safe languages.

If you want to participate in the program, you can apply from the following page. When participating in the program, it seems that subsidies will be paid in units of 10,000 dollars (about 1.39 million yen) from the 1 million dollar pool.
