Starting February 9, we will no longer support free access to the Twitter API, both v2 and v1.1. A paid basic tier will be available instead ????

Mr. Mask cites 'fraud and abuse by spambots' as the reason for terminating the free provision of the API. Mr. Mask also revealed that he plans to offer the API for $ 100 per month (about 13,000 yen).
Yeah, free API is being abused badly right now by bot scammers & opinion manipulators. There's no verification process or cost, so easy to spin up 100k bots to do bad things.

Just ~$100/month for API access with ID verification will clean things up greatly.
Due to the end of free API provision, OAuth using Twitter API will no longer be available, and there is concern that it may not be possible to log in using a Twitter account.
Meanwhile, on February 5, 2023, Musk said, ``In response to your feedback, Twitter will provide a lightweight, write-only API for bots that provide great content for free.'' increase.

In response to Mr. Mask's announcement, technology news sites The Verge and Tech Crunch said, ``It is unclear which content Mr. Mask judges to be 'excellent'. It's unclear,' he questioned.
