Iranian national Mehran Karimi Naseri returned to Iran in 1975 after studying in England, but was deported for participating in anti-establishment movements. After that, Mr. Naceri received Belgian refugee recognition, but he became stateless by throwing away his identification card, and eventually settled at Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris from 1988. After that, in 1992, a French court ruled that 'Mr. Naseri is legally settled at the airport as a refugee and cannot be excluded from the airport.'

In 2004, the movie '

Terminal ' starring Tom Hanks and directed by Steven Spielberg, created under the influence of Mr. Naceri, was released. In addition, Mr. Naceri's circumstances are said to have influenced various movies and operas besides the movie 'Terminal'. Following the hits of these works, Mr. Naseri was offered citizenship from Belgium and France, but he refused both and spent time in the airport until 2006.

Inside Charles de Gaulle International Airport, Naceri reportedly spent most of his time on a red bench in Terminal 1 and refused donations or gifts, with the exception of meal vouchers occasionally given by airport staff.

After being admitted to the hospital for surgery in 2006 and spending film rights fees in a hotel near the airport and a relief facility for the homeless, Mr. Naceri has been at the airport again in recent weeks. I was back to life.

However, around noon on November 12, 2022, Naceri died of a heart attack on the second floor of the airport terminal. The police and medical team said, 'We tried hard to treat him, but we could not save him.'
