The YouTube development team has determined that the situation around Russia is 'abnormal' and has announced that RT and other channels have suspended many features to monetize on YouTube. Although the channel has not been closed, it is no longer possible to place advertisements, and it is said that measures are being taken to reduce the frequency of recommended appearances of the channel. In addition, these channels are no longer available from within Ukraine at the request of the Ukrainian government.

Regarding RT, the European Union and others have taken bans, saying that they 'justify the war' and 'disseminate harmful false information.'

A YouTube spokeswoman said, 'We may continue to monitor new developments and take further steps.' In addition, it is planned to prohibit RT from placing advertisements on search results and Google services such as Gmail via Google's tools.

In addition to this, Google prohibits downloading RT smartphone apps from within Ukraine. A Google spokeswoman has announced that this is 'at the request of the Ukrainian government.'

As of February 26, 2022, Ukraine's Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, has announced that he has requested Google, Apple, Netflix and others to impose restrictions on Russia.

In addition to Google, Facebook has announced that it has banned RT ads.
