While testing Twitter's ability to send DMs via tweets, some are worried that harassment will accelerate.

On February 4, 2022, Twitter announced that it has started a new test of 'the ability to send direct messages (DM) directly from tweets to the other party'. Twitter has appealed that it will be easier to start a conversation, but there are also concerns that harassment will accelerate.

A new DM feature that Twitter is testing for some iOS users adds a DM mark to tweets as shown below, and users can tap this mark to send a DM to the tweet poster. You will be able to do it. One extra step of having to go to someone's profile to send a DM cuts back on harassment.

This is almost never about “starting a conversation,” when people are sending unsolicited DMs.

At least give us a safety feature to not allow this on our tweets.
