Achieved 2.4 times the communication speed of the current standard in the world's first demonstration of the next-generation communication standard 'Wi-Fi 7'

The communication standard announced in 2018 with a theoretical maximum communication speed of 9.6 Gbps is '

Wi-Fi 6 ', and the next-generation standard is ' Wi-Fi 7 '. MediaTek has demonstrated the world's first Wi-Fi 7 and has achieved a communication speed 2.4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6.

According to the Wi-Fi Alliance , which promotes the spread of wireless LAN products and formulates standards, Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be) is a next-generation standard that can achieve communication speeds of at least 30 Gbps. The maximum communication speed of Wi-Fi 6 was 9.6 Gbps, and the maximum communication speed of Wi-Fi 5 was 3.5 Gbps.

Wi-Fi 7 can use existing frequency bands such as 2.4GHz / 5GHz / 6GHz, and is a communication standard that enables smooth handling of applications with a large amount of data transfer such as 8K video streaming, VR, cloud gaming, and cloud computing. Is expected as.

MediaTek demonstrated Wi-Fi 7 using its own Filogic technology and succeeded in recording 2.4 times the communication speed with the same number of antennas as Wi-Fi 6. MediaTek used 4K quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) for communication on a 320MHz wide channel during the demonstration.

MediaTek's demonstration also introduces 'multi-link operation (MLO)' technology, which uses a combination of multiple channels in different frequency bands. With MLO, even if interference or congestion occurs in individual bands, it is possible to communicate without interrupting network traffic. As a result, MLO is expected to become an important technology for services that require constant connectivity, such as movie streaming services and online gameplay.

MediaTek has mentioned that it will release a Wi-Fi 7 compatible product in 2023, but the Wi-Fi 7 standard itself is still a draft specification and will be certified by the IEEE in 2024. However, MediaTek says it has 'worked on the development of this technology since its inception,' and plans to bring it to market as soon as possible.
