Doctor who branded his initials on livers loses ability to practice
The General Medical Council (GMC), the public agency that manages the official registration of practitioners in the United Kingdom, has stripped Bramhall's medical license.
According to court records , Bramhall has imprinted his initials on the organs of patients who have undergone surgery twice, in February and August 2013.
Bramhall seems to have carved initials using the argon beam coagulator of the equipment used in surgery. The Argon Beam Coagulator is a device used to stop bleeding in organs such as the liver and kidneys that are difficult to stop bleeding with an electric knife.
Bramhall reportedly carved his initials on the liver of the patient who had the surgery, when another doctor operated on a patient whose surgery was unsuccessful. .. According to court records, the patient with initials engraved on the liver had trauma after the fact was discovered and suffered from mental health problems.
Bramhall admitted that he had carved his initials on the liver in two surgeries and was fined £ 10,000.
In December 2020, the medical professional court decided to suspend Bramhall's doctor's license for five months, but this ruling was reconsidered and eventually changed to a decision to deprive the doctor's license.
