Rocket development venture Spin Launch succeeds in launching a prototype and adopts a unique launch system that uses kinetic energy

SpinLaunch, a venture company that has been exploring ways to launch spacecraft orbits, has succeeded in launching a prototype in New Mexico. Normally, spacecraft are launched by boosters, but SpinLaunch uses kinetic energy as an alternative method that has never been seen before.

The launch movie can be seen on the 'Suborbital Accelerator ' page of the official website. The same is posted on Twitter by CNBC reporter Michael Sheets.

The test was conducted on October 22, 2021. The distant view of the Spin Launch launch facility in Spaceport America, a commercial spaceport in New Mexico, looks like this.

The staff who face the launch.

The facility is shaped like the number '6', and the lid at the end of the cylindrical part is open. This is a 'ballistic accelerator'.

When the staff pushes a button ...

A huge board starts to rotate. The mechanism is similar to a centrifuge.

The staff watching over.

Eventually, something suddenly popped out from the tip of the cylinder.

The shadow disappears in a blink of an eye.

Seen in slow motion, the tip of the rocket pierces the membrane and appears.

It flew with great momentum as it was. This is where the rocket is being launched through the vacuum seal, and the speed of the rocket is several times the speed of sound.

With a normal launch, you can see the trajectory of the rocket, but with the Spin Launch method, you cannot see the trajectory at all.

SpinLaunch is a company founded by CEO Jonathan Yanny in 2014 and has been aiming to launch rockets at low cost. It is planned to carry out about 30 more ballistic test flights in the next 6 to 8 months.
