I tried playing the 2D fighting game 'MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA' drawn with the world view of the popular visual novel 'Tsukihime'

2021 is a 2D fighting game 'MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA ' based on the world view of

the bizarre visual novel 'Tsukihime ' of the game brand TYPE-MOON known for ' Fate / stay night ' and ' Fate / Grand Order'. It was released on September 30th, so I was actually playing with it.

The title screen looks like this. The 'MELTY BLOOD' series was originally announced by the doujin circle 'Watanabe Seisakusho ' in 2002, and has since become an arcade game. This work is a new work based on the world view of the remake version 'Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon- ' released on August 26, 2021.

The game modes are 'single play' for 1 player, 'VERSUS' for 2 players, 'NETWORK' for online battle mode, 'TRAINING' for practice, 'CUSTOMIZE' for editing profile, and pictures in the game. There are seven 'GALLERY' where you can see the production and 'OPTION' for setting. Before suddenly trying to play single-player, it is recommended to play 'STRUCT' where you can learn the game system and 'MISSION' where you can learn character commands from TRAINING.

There are 14 playable characters at the time of writing the article. In addition to the characters that appeared in the douujin version 'Tsukihime' announced in 2001 and the characters familiar in the 'MELTY BLOOD' series, the character 'Noel' newly added in 'Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-' There are also 'Vlove' and 'Saber' that appears in Fate / stay night.

In MISSION, you can learn character commands and simple combos, so if you complete MISSION, you will be able to use the character to some extent.

Especially in MISSION, you can wear a combo based on the new system 'Rapid Beat' added in this work. Rapid Beat is a system that allows you to easily combine techniques and hit combos by simply hitting a button repeatedly.

The following movie is a place where I actually tried to connect the techniques with rapid beat just by hitting the button repeatedly. In MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA, you can use the arrow keys and 4 buttons of A (weak attack), B (medium attack), C (strong attack), and D (shield) to perform the technique, but just hit the A button repeatedly. The point is that even beginners of fighting games can easily enjoy it because they can play flashy combos.

MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA's 'Rapid Beat' is a system that allows you to easily create combos by simply hitting a button-YouTube

The opponent's attack can be guarded by inserting the key in the backward direction, but the physical strength is slightly reduced. However, if you press the D button at the right time according to the opponent's attack, you can nullify the opponent's attack with the shield.

Furthermore, in this work, a 'shield counter' is generated by pressing a button at the moment when the opponent's attack is invalidated with the shield. You can cut down the opponent's attack and launch it in the air ...

You can wrap around behind your opponent and attack. However, since there will be a slight gap after the shield is generated, you may be hurt unexpectedly if you fail to match the shield with the opponent's attack. The shield counter can also be the starting technique for combos, so reading this shield is the heart of the game.

And the moon icon is drawn under the character icon. At the beginning of the battle, it is 100%, that is, it is in a full moon state, but if you activate the enhanced special move 'Moon Skill', 30% will be consumed and it will be missing.

Furthermore, 'Moon Drive', which consumes 50% of the moon icon, is a mode in which the performance is temporarily improved by increasing the number of jumps, using aerial dash, and increasing the number of magic circuits (described later). Since the moment it is activated is invincible, you can bring it to an advantageous situation if you use it at this moment.

And, the gauge called 'Magic Circuit' at the bottom of the screen can be accumulated up to three, but it is possible to deliver an enhanced version of the special move by consuming one.

'Ark Drive', which can be delivered by consuming 3 more, is a super special move. The command is common to all characters and can cause great damage to the opponent.

Furthermore, if the opponent has won one round, the maximum number of magic circuits has increased to four.

If you press all the A, B, C, and D buttons while four magic circuits are accumulated, 'Last Arc' is the final special move, and you can reduce the opponent's physical strength by half. For example, in the case of the main character, Shiki Tono, the eyes of both eyes glow blue ...

Divide the opponent into 17 parts.

The production of the last arc is very flashy, and the special move production unique to the character is delivered.

Story mode is available for everyone. However, some characters can only be played after clearing the story mode to some extent.

The story mode is a gaiden content of 'Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-', so if you want to know the story properly, play 'Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-'. Maybe it's better.

And you can edit your profile from 'CUSTOMIZE'. Since it is like a name tag used in online battles, parts and words can be selected by spending accumulated points or unlocking achievements by playing the game. For those who want to play mainly online battles, it is also ant to assemble your own profile here.

When I actually played MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA, I felt that the character's rough motion and sense of technique were like MELTY BLOOD in the past, but with new systems such as rapid beat and moon icon, it is new as a game. It has become. In particular, the rapid beat system allows you to comfortably play combos just by hitting a button repeatedly, so even beginners can enjoy the fun of fighting games, but by incorporating this rapid beat into the coordination of techniques in your own way, you can use it. The possibilities are endless, so it's not just a beginner's help mode, it's a system that even experienced players can enjoy.

MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA is a dot-animated 2D fighting game, but the character production is also very flashy, and it feels good to play anyway. It's pretty fast, and it's based on repeated button presses, so I was confused that the play feeling was quite different from the general 2D fighting game, but I was able to get used to it immediately. I played with an arcade stick this time, but it is also easy to play with a controller because complicated lever input is not required.

MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA has been released on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam. The price of the regular version is 7480 yen including tax, and the digital limited edition with MELTY BLOOD's visual setting collection and soundtrack is 11,800 yen including tax.
