EC2-Classic is an instance environment that runs in a single flat network assigned with only one IP. The only environment that has existed since the summer of 2006 when EC2 launched, supporting the launch of 'Justin.tv ', which pioneered Twitch, a livestreaming platform for gamers in 2009, and Animoto's ' Facebook Video Maker' When it became a hot topic, it contributed to various services such as providing 3400 instances, but it was gradually replaced by Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) that appeared in 2009.
According to the announcement, users who signed up after December 4, 2013 will not be able to use EC2-Classic unless requested, and most users in 2021 will not be affected by the abolition of EC2-Classic.
Specific EC2-Classic decommissioning will be phased in, with EC2-Classic disabled and EC2-Classic on October 30, 2021 for AWS accounts that do not have an active EC2-Classic environment in the region. Suspended sales of Reserved Instances (fixed-term contract plan). All transitional measures are expected to be completed on August 15, 2022. AWS states, 'We have no plans to suspend decommissioning and will do our best to meet the deadline.'
AWS encourages EC2-Classic users to use the EC2-Classic Resource Finder to search for EC2-Classic resources in their accounts and use the AWS Application Migration Service to migrate to a VPC.
