New Twitter function 'Birdwatch' that provides reference information for false information tweets
For tweets that may be misleading, we are testing the introduction of a new function ' Birdwatch ' that allows you to leave easy-to-understand information as a memo. Although you can reply to just give information, Birdwatch is designed to allow you to evaluate the notes you leave and to show 'correct' information under the initiative of the community.
Introducing Birdwatch, a community-based approach to misinformation
A movie that clearly shows what kind of function 'Birdwatch' is has been released.
???? Today we're introducing
@Birdwatch , a community-driven approach to addressing misleading information. And we want your help. (1/3) pic.twitter.com/aYJILZ7iKB — Twitter Support (@TwitterSupport) January 25, 2021
The beginning is a tweet saying 'Whales are lies! That is a robot for the government to monitor us!'
Occasionally, these tweets can be spread violently.
Then, a person who agreed, 'This is true. I heard from my uncle.'
'Please forgive me, it's a lie.'
'I can't believe the dolphins ...' 'Look up for yourself and think for yourself.'
And the reply column that completely turns into chaos.
'Don't trust what you see online'
The new feature of Twitter that appeared is 'Birdwatch'.
Tap the three-point icon at the top right of the tweet ...
Tap 'Contribute to Birdwatch' at the bottom of the menu.
Then, a check box will appear to select what kind of incorrect information is included in the corresponding tweet. In this case, 'It is a joke or satire that might be misinterpreted as a fact' (jokes and satire that can be misinterpreted as facts) ) ”, So check it.
Then, select the effect of believing this tweet from 'Little harm' or 'Considerable harm'.
Finally, I'll give you some helpful evidence of 'why misinformation' when others see this tweet.
For the memo posted in this way, 'whether it was useful' and 'whether you agree with the conclusion of this memo' are voted, and the memo itself is also evaluated.
The Birdwatch feature is being tested for American users first.
