The British SMR Consortium is a corporate alliance in which Rolls-Royce, construction company Rain Oruk, and the National Atomic Energy Research Institute participate.
The SMR Consortium plans to build 16 small modular reactors, each of which will supply up to 440 MW, which is sufficient to power a city with 450,000 households. ..
The British government is expected to invest £ 200m in the consortium as part of its 'Green Economy Recovery Expenditure Plan'.
The consortium predicts that a construction go-ahead will create 6,000 jobs in five years. In addition, by the 2030s, 34,000 long-term jobs will be created, which will lead to a total of 40,000 jobs.
Interim CEO Tom Samson of the consortium commented that the construction of this 'reactor fleet' would revitalize the relevant communities and generate economic activity over the 60-year design life.
