Xiaomi is developing '100W Super Charge Turbo' that can charge a smartphone 100% in just 17 minutes

There should be a lot of people who experience 'I noticed that I had forgotten to charge my smartphone just before putting out, and even if I inserted the cable, I could not charge it for a while'. A smartphone maker in China, Xiaomi, has developed a new technology ' 100W Super Charge Turbo ' that can fully charge a smartphone at a decelerating speed even within such a limited time, and has released a demonstration movie.

The following movie shows how the smartphone is actually charged using '100W Super Charge Turbo'. The left side is a smartphone with a battery capacity of 4000 mAh equipped with 100W Super Charge Turbo, and the right side is an Oppo smartphone with a battery capacity of 3700 mAh equipped with the conventional high-speed charging technology 'SuperVOOC'. The movie was posted on China's largest social network, Weibo , and recorded 2.6 million playbacks in just two days.

The movie starts with two smartphones being charged simultaneously. The timer in the middle shows the charging time in minutes.

The percentage showing the remaining battery capacity of the smartphone on the left is rising. It is charged at high speed.

A monitor that displays the voltage applied to each smartphone and the current flowing to the battery is added by editing below the timer. The power supplied to the 100W Super Charge Turbo equipped smartphone is about 18V x about 4A = 72W, which is about 2.5 times that of about 8.5V x about 3.3A = about 28W delivered to the SuperVOOC equipped smartphone. However, the 100W Super Charge Turbo side may change between 3.0A and 4.5A at high speed, probably because of the technology under development, and the current seems to be somewhat unstable compared to the SuperVOOC side.

After 17 minutes, the left smartphone is fully charged. It can be said that the Oppo smartphone equipped with the SuperVOOC can be charged up to 65% in 17 minutes, but it can be said that it is fast enough, but the smartphone equipped with the 100W Super Charge Turbo has been able to charge at an even higher rate than that.

However, as it is a technology under development, at the time of writing the detailed specifications about '100W Super Charge Turbo' have not been released, and it is unclear about the influence on battery life etc.
