4K movie "Transient" which shoots the state of lightning with 1000 high-speed camera per second

Bring rumor and flashLightningAlthough it is a momentary event, a 4K movie that shoots the moment of lightning strike with a high-speed camera of 1000 frames per second "TransientIf you look at "actually, the same thunder does not exist as one, you can see that each has a different expression.

This movie was produced by a photographer, Mr. Dustin Farrell, a video writer. Camera that can shoot high-speed 4K image quality / uncompressed movies "Phantom Flex 4KIt is responsible for the information that seems to be thunderstorms and jumps on the car and heads for it. A number of materials collected continuously throughout the summer of 2017 are used.

A moment when a lightning stretches to the ground from a shimmering cloud. With a high-speed camera, it is possible to record it even if such a momentary event happens.

This thunder is a type of lightning that branches many times.

A flash that appears suddenly in the dark night. You can tell by looking at the movie, but there are thunder which only one thunder shines glittering in a moment and afterwards thunder which leaves a reverberation, thunder which stretches branch over a much longer time than it spreads, and various kinds It exists. Mr. Farrell wrote that "like a crystal of snow, the same thing is not made as one".

Interesting lightning like the following is also taken. At the beginning, the thunder stretches from the clouds towards the ground ... ...

At that moment when I thought of touching the ground, it rallied again as if the tip had been bounced back.

But in the end it touches the ground and glows most brightly. That looks like a living thing.

To ask for thunder means to basically go to a place with bad weather. Mr. Farrell seems to have taken a picture mainly in the state of Arizona, but it also comes across encountering such a huge cumulonimbus "Supercell".

Using the same camera, Mr. Farrell is also making a time lapse movie that photographed Supercell's growth at a slight speed, and it is possible to see the situation in this movie.

It was said that nature was the opponent for thunder shooting, and mostly did not go as desired. Mr. Farrell seems to have frequently returned home with a high Zero shooting even when bringing in heavy equipment. Also, even though it says "taking a lightning stroke" in one mouth, thunder does not shine at the timing we asked for. However, if you continue to shoot a 4K movie of 1000 frames per second, it will also run out of recording HDD capacity quickly.

In such a case it was convenient that Phantom Flex 4K had a certain recording function. Although this camera always keeps shooting at 1000 frames / 4K image quality for the second time, it does not write data to the HDD until the actual shutter is pressed, and temporarily saves it in memory. Then, when the lightning actually shines, pressing the shutter will have the function of writing data to the HDD backwards to the data taken a few seconds ago.

However, despite shooting using such a convenient function, the total amount of data reached 10 TB at the end of one summer.

Thunder that shines across the four horses

While the clouds are leaving and it is getting sunny, thunder that shines like drawing out the last blow.

It looks like a shot as if lightning set the aim for the sunset. It seems that microbursts or guerilla heavy rain are probably occurring in the part where "bean sprout" appears on the right of the screen.

Contrast between the figure of a huge super cell and a small hut in front.

From the images captured by the latest technology, we will be afraid of the power of nature again.
