"PDC" is a combination of PC (desktop PC · notebook PC · workstation) and tablet (slate type · 2 in 1 tablet PC), total shipments totaled 455 million units in 2016. Of these, desktop and data center workstations were 130.3 million, laptop PCs and mobile workstations 156.8 million, Tablet PC 21.5 million and slate tablet 155.4 million.

According to IDC, the annual average growth rate over the five years from 2016 to 2021 is forecast to be -1.4% overall, it is thought that the overall market is contracting. Especially large slumps are predicted for -6.9% for slate tablets, followed by -3.0% for desktop PCs.

Meanwhile, tablet PCs are projected to grow at an average annual growth rate of 16.4%, and it is estimated that shipments of 2021 will be 45.9 million units. Although notebook PCs are not large, shipments in 2021 are projected to grow to 163.7 million units.

When comparing shipments in 2016, the difference between notebook PC and slate type tablet is only 3.4 million, but in 2021 forecast it is 56.6 million, which is a big difference.
