A compact hydrogen fuel cell that can be stored without sacrificing performance for 20 years after charging the smartphone

Semiconductor manufacturer Rohm collaborated with Kyoto University and Aqua Fairy to develop a compact, lightweight, high power solid hydrogen fuel cell that can be used as a portable power source for smartphones. We succeeded in generating 5 Whr of electric power by making calcium hydride solidified into a sheet, making about 4.5 liters of hydrogen from a sheet of 38 mm square and 2 mm thick which is less than 3 cc in volume and water.

We developed a lightweight solid hydrogen fuel cell that achieves high efficiency and safety at the same time

And, by applying this technology, demonstrations of products that can be used as mobile batteries for smartphones and emergency power supplies used in the event of a disasterCEATEC JAPAN 2012So I went to the scene and shot.

ROHM's booth is like this.

Arrived at the fuel cell exhibition section.

Demo product lineup from "Smartphone Charging Multi Power Supply" to "Portable 200W class leisure, power source, for emergency power supply" and so on.

It is supposed to use for outdoor and disaster.

Demonstration machines with designs that are not amusing even if they are sold at mass retailers are lining up.

The size of the model to connect with a USB cable to charge a smartphone etc. is horizontal 65 × length 137 × thickness 20 mm and weighs about 87 g.

It is about this size when it is in the hand of an adult man.

The thickness is also not much different from the general mobile battery currently on the market.

The size of the large model is width 320 × height 330 × thickness 160 mm and weighs about 7 kg. The rated power can be used in an environment of 200 W and minus 5 to 40 degrees.

Looking diagonally from the side like this.

According to ROHM, high output type capable of outputting 200 W will be first commercialized and will be sold in the spring of 2013. However, it has already become a size that does not cause problems for daily smartphone chargers for demo that I actually touched at the venue, and it seems that you can actually charge the iPhone etc, so at a time not so far It seems that it can be expected that sales to the general will begin.
