"Evangelion SUS Figure Project", 1 metre tall Unit 00 made of Stainless Steel and Titanium
"Let's make something cool to demonstrate our laser forming technologies"
"How about Evangelion?"
Thus started the Evangelion SUS Figure Project by metalwork company Ohta Industry (Inami, Hyogo), with official permission by GAINAX.
Laser forming is Ohta Industry's unique technology (now in development) to plastically deform metal with the thermal stress caused by laser beam.

Most of the materials are leftover bits and pieces from other works.
Laser forming use the laser cutter on low power, the laser too weak to cut but strong enough to heat the metal, making it deformable. It can accurately heat just where you want to bend.
The head of Unit 00.
About the size of a 6-year-old's hand. The fingers look kind of aristocratic.
Spine with socket for Entry Plug.
Shoes. About 19 cm (7.5 in.)
Waist down. This picture makes it look huge.
Five months into the project, the prorotype stood up. Kind of stooping, trademark posture of Unit 00.
Beautiful. You'll hardly guess it's basically made of junk.
