An AI-powered nude transformation app was discovered being advertised on Instagram and Facebook, and had managed to bypass Apple's review process and be distributed on their official app store.
Meta, the company behind social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, offers an advertising service called Meta Ads, which allows advertisers to deliver ads across its platforms. It has now been revealed that Apple has removed the AI nude transformation app ' Kromix ,' which was advertised using Meta Ads, from the App Store.

Kromix is an AI nude modeling app that can generate deepfake pornography of real people.
According to WIRED , Meta advertised Kromix as 'the AI that men are actually using.' The Kromix ads reportedly included AI-generated deepfake pornography featuring a woman who closely resembled a prominent American female politician.
When WIRED contacted Meta and Apple about Kromix, Apple removed the app from the App Store. Meta also canceled its 'Kromix promotional campaign using 32 ads,' which had targeted only male users.
According to Apple, Kromix appears to have added prohibited content and nudity features after passing the initial App Store review. Apple commented, 'We have always strictly prohibited apps that are intended to generate, distribute, or consume pornography. Nudity apps violate our app review guidelines, and we are actively working to identify and remove apps and the developer accounts behind them that attempt to circumvent our processes and policies.'
WIRED has reported several other nude-enhancing apps to Apple besides Kromix, and it appears that Apple has removed these apps from the App Store each time. For example, when WIRED reported 'MaskAI,' an app advertised through meta ads that allows users to upload photos and have people's faces superimposed into sexual images, the app was removed from the App Store.
Furthermore, David Chiu, the prosecutor in San Francisco, California, has ordered Apple and Google, which operate smartphone app stores, to remove nude apps from their app stores.
