According to an email sent to employees by Patreon CEO Jack Conte, the company will be implementing two reforms: layoffs and changes to its organizational structure and work style.

Patreon's business itself is doing well, with the number of registered users and sales showing a steady upward trend. In past research, Patreon revealed that 'SNS users tend to only look at 'recommended' content, making it difficult for creators to gain a loyal fanbase on social media.' However, CEO Conte points out that because Patreon is a service that connects creators with fans, it is in a more advantageous position for creators to choose it compared to other services.

However, in order to maintain a stable foundation for creators, it was necessary to review the 'cost structure,' which led to a 20% reduction in employees. CEO Conte stated that it was 'a difficult decision.'

Furthermore, in light of the reduction in employees, CEO Conte emphasized the need to flatten the organization so that smaller teams can work more efficiently. He also stated that 'AI has fundamentally changed the technology industry,' adding that it has influenced how his company operates and how it is structured. While acknowledging the impact of AI, CEO Conte stressed that 'these changes are not being implemented because we believe that AI will replace humans.'

Employees affected by this reduction were reportedly sent a termination notice after receiving an email informing them of the above. These employees will lose access to the system on the same day. As compensation for their dismissal, they will receive 16 weeks' worth of salary and a bonus of $1,500 (approximately 246,000 yen) to help purchase a new PC.

CEO Conte addressed the attendees, saying, 'Thank you so much for your dedication to the creators, fans, and this company. Your contributions have made a huge difference in the lives of many people. I am truly grateful for the passion, skills, and compassion you have poured into your work.'

This latest round of layoffs is the largest since 2022, when Patreon cut 17% of its workforce. During the previous layoff, Patreon closed its offices in Berlin and Dublin.
