The American Workforce Development Academy (AWA) is a short-term, intensive workforce development program aimed at long-term career development in skilled trades, with all participants receiving free support throughout their training period. All costs are covered by Meta, and operating partners manage the program, providing candidates with tuition, airfare, accommodation, and daily allowances during the training period.
Participants select a specialization and participate in a training program. Upon completion of the program, they can gain practical experience on construction sites in partnership with Meta's contractors. Graduates can obtain both a National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification and a U.S. Workforce Certificate, and the program guarantees employment for all graduates.
AWA is scheduled to launch in 2026 as a pilot program in Louisiana, Ohio, Indiana, and Texas. It was also announced that $115 million (approximately 18 billion yen) will be invested in the first year.
In a Threads post, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated, 'For America to play a leading role in the field of AI, we will need hundreds of thousands of skilled workers to build the infrastructure. People need the education and opportunities to do these jobs. We believe the future is open to all. We are working with academic and workforce development partners to launch the American Workforce Academy, which will provide free training and direct job placements to build this infrastructure.'
AWA was launched in response to 35,000 applications in just seven days for Meta's fiber optic installation training program, 'Level-Up.' Dina Powell McCormick, President and Vice Chair of Meta, said, 'The AI revolution is not only bringing about change, but also a historic opportunity. Skilled workers brought electrification to rural America by erecting utility poles. They worked in factories that manufactured the weapons that contributed to America's victory in World War II. Now, a new generation is laying fiber optics to lay the foundation that will solidify America's strength in this new era.'
Today @Meta is proud to launch America's Workforce Academy with our partners.

Mark H. Morial, president and CEO of the National Association of Cities, which partnered with Meta to launch AWA, said, 'AWA is a prime example of the bold and inclusive investment our nation's economy urgently needs. At a time when many Americans are seeking career paths that can provide a stable family, this initiative opens new doors, especially for communities that have historically been excluded from opportunities. By removing cost barriers, providing industry-recognized qualifications, and guaranteeing employment, AWA is helping to build a more equitable and resilient workforce for the future.'
