Reports suggest Apple has halted development of a successor to the Apple Vision Pro and is focusing on smart glasses.

Apple launched its first mixed reality (MR) headset device, the Apple Vision Pro , in June 2024 for approximately 600,000 yen. While there were rumors of a successor or a lower-priced model of the Apple Vision Pro being developed, it has been reported that development related to the Apple Vision Pro has been discontinued in order to focus on smart glasses.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is well-versed in Apple-related information, John Turnus, who will become Apple's new CEO in September 2026, has approved a major revision of the development plans for Apple Vision Pro and smart glasses.

This review has reportedly led to the cancellation of plans for a second-generation Apple Vision Pro and a lower-cost model. As a result, Apple will now focus on developing smart glasses.

Kuo released a roadmap related to Apple Vision Pro in June 2025, but it is no longer relevant because Apple has significantly changed its plans over the past year. Kuo's product timeline initially listed seven products, but as of the time of writing, only two of them remain relevant.

As of the time of writing, Apple is developing two types of smart glasses: one is an AI-powered smart glass that will compete with Meta Ray-Ban, and the other is an AR smart glass with a display. However, Kuo reports that the release of the AR smart glasses with a display that operates using optical waveguides has been delayed until 2029.

'Given that Apple is focusing its resources on smart glasses, which have greater potential in the mass market, I think discontinuing the Apple Vision Pro series was the right decision,' Kuo said.
