A taste test review of Nissin's Donbei Hakata Motsunabe-style Udon, featuring the subtle flavors of spicy chili peppers and chives.

Nissin Foods has released a cup udon called ' Nissin Donbei Hakata Motsunabe Shime-style Udon, ' which is inspired by the udon noodles enjoyed at the end of a motsunabe (offal hot pot) meal. It features a flavorful broth based on soy sauce blended with flying fish stock, with added garlic and beef fat, so we decided to try it ourselves to see what it tastes like.

First, open the lid halfway and take out the liquid soup and dried ingredients.

First, add the dried ingredients. The dried ingredients consist of four types: cabbage, sesame seeds, red chili peppers, and chives.

Pour in hot water, close the lid, and wait for 5 minutes. In the meantime, warm the liquid soup on top of the lid.

After 5 minutes, open the lid and add the liquid soup.

Mix well and it's done.

Just before it was ready, a strong aroma of motsunabe (offal hot pot) with chives and garlic filled the air, and that flavor remained intact when I tasted it. The slightly lighter soup successfully recreated the broth of motsunabe. Another characteristic was the gradual spiciness that the red chili peppers added. The combination of the light soup and the spicy kick of the red chili peppers was sure to whet your appetite.
