Defense Minister Katz explained that the pre-emptive strike was 'to eliminate the threat to Israel,' and declared a special state of emergency in preparation for Iranian retaliation. Israeli Defense Forces commander Zvika Tesler also raised the possibility of an Iranian attack, saying, 'We are taking all measures to warn the public at the right time.'

American officials have said the attack was not carried out solely by Israel, but was a joint operation with the United States.

US President Donald Trump also released a statement on his social media account, Truth Social, revealing that he had launched a large-scale operation in Iran.

Israeli media reports said the operation had been planned for several months and that the initial phase was expected to last four days.

Footage has also been released that purports to show a cruise missile heading towards Tehran.

Following the attack on Iran, neighboring Iraq has closed its airspace.

The United States and Iran held their third round of high-level nuclear talks in Geneva, Switzerland, on February 26, but the United States' tough demands, such as the destruction of nuclear facilities and the handover of enriched uranium, were not met. While Iran reported that 'significant progress' had been made, the United States made no announcements about the content of the talks.
