Linux is free software, and its development is open, meaning anyone can submit bug reports, fixes, and feature enhancement patches to the Linux kernel mailing list . Torvalds and the maintainers he appoints ultimately coordinate the decisions on which changes to include in the official Linux kernel.
The next mainline kernel, Linux 7.0, was scheduled to include various improvements, such as new hardware support for MMCs and optimized support for secure erase and trim on some Kingstom eMMCs .
For details on the planned updates for MMC in Linux 7.0, please see the pull request below.

However, Torvalds rejected all of the MMC changes due to a clear lack of testing and validation in linux-next, a development repository that aggregates and integrates code from each development tree for the next Linux kernel release. Torvalds criticized the poorly tested code, calling it 'complete garbage,' 'pure garbage,' and 'untested shit.'
As a result, the planned MMC changes will have to wait until after the Linux 7.1 merge window .
