Founded in 2018, Kodiak AI develops autonomous driving systems with braking, steering, and sensor software for trucks. In January 2025, two Kodiak AI autonomous trucks were delivered to energy company Atlas Energy Solutions , and began operating autonomously in the Permian Basin, an oil-producing region in West Texas and eastern New Mexico.
'To our knowledge, this is the first time that a customer, rather than a manufacturer, will own and operate an autonomous vehicle,' said Don Burnett, founder and CEO of Kodiak AI, in a statement regarding the delivery of the self-driving truck to Atlas Energy Solutions. 'We believe this will be the model for the future.'
Kodiak AI has received an order for 100 self-driving trucks from Atlas Energy Solutions, and at the time of writing, eight have been delivered. For the delivery to Atlas Energy Solutions, Kodiak AI is collaborating with American automaker Roush Industries .

On January 5, 2026, local time, Kodiak AI announced that it had signed an agreement with Bosch, a major automotive parts supplier, to collaborate and scale the manufacturing of a production-grade, redundant autonomous driving platform.
Kodiak AI and Bosch will jointly develop a redundant platform for trucks to be self-driving on factory production lines or through third-party customization through Kodiak AI's self-driving platform, 'Kodiak Driver.' This platform will include the necessary hardware, firmware, and software interfaces for deploying 'Kodiak Driver.'
'Driving the adoption of driverless trucks and physical AI requires not only robust autonomous driving technology, but also the manufacturing experience and strong supply chain to achieve true scale,' Burnett said in a statement. 'By collaborating with Bosch, we are confident we can deliver modular, maintainable, and system-level integrated autonomous driving hardware at the scale necessary for commercial success, both as a retrofit or for factory line integration.'
Under this agreement, Bosch will supply Kodiak AI with various hardware components, including sensors, steering technology, and other vehicle drive components. Paul Thomas, president of Bosch North America, said, 'By supplying production-grade hardware, we aim to collaborate with Kodiak AI to realize the next generation of self-driving trucks.'
The self-driving truck equipped with Kodiak Driver will be on display at the Bosch booth at CES 2026 from January 6th to 9th.
