Reddit moderator found guilty of degrading women for sharing movie sex scenes, rare ruling

A Reddit moderator known as 'KlammereFyr' has been found guilty of extracting and sharing hundreds of sex scenes from movies and TV shows. It's unusual in that he wasn't charged with illegally uploading copyrighted material, but rather with violating the moral rights of copyright holders by using copyrighted material in an unintended way.

KlammereFyr is a 40-year-old man who served as a moderator of the Reddit community 'r/WatchItForThePlot,' where people share sexually explicit scenes from movies and TV shows.

According to reports, the community was featured on the Danish local radio show 'Kulturen,' and more than 10 actresses complained. The actresses said, 'There's a big difference between being naked in a movie and being posted on Reddit.' They argued that while there was nothing wrong with the original sex and nudity scenes, they didn't intend for them to be posted online without context.

Some of the videos posted on Reddit were edited to arbitrarily trim certain scenes and emphasize certain parts. Some of the actresses who filed complaints said they felt sexually abused after watching videos that were clearly intended to be viewed for sexual purposes.

In response to this controversy, the Denmark-based copyright protection organization

Rights Alliance filed a lawsuit on behalf of the Danish Actors Association, broadcasters DR and TV2, and other rights holders. Rights Alliance argued that this act violates the author's right to have their work not altered against their will, a right known as 'respect' (or 'right of integrity' in Japan) under Danish copyright law.

Danish police launched an investigation, tracked down and arrested Klammere Fyr, who was accused of sharing 347 videos linked to at least 100 actresses.

In October 2025, KlammereFyr pleaded guilty and received a seven-month conditional prison sentence and 120 hours of community service. The rights holders are seeking damages ranging from $2,300 to $4,600 per video, with the maximum amount expected to exceed $1.5 million.

In addition to sharing videos on Reddit, KlammereFyr was also found guilty of sharing over 25TB of pirated content through the torrent tracker Superbits.org.

According to the foreign media TorrentFreak, this is the first case in Denmark where a violation of the right to respect has been recognized.

Maria Wentegott, president of the Danish Actors' Union, issued a statement welcoming the ruling, saying: 'This victory means more than just peace of mind for actors when filming and choosing roles. Actors can now be sure that there will be stricter policing of any nude scenes taken out of context.'
