Anthony Enzo-DeMeo, who previously led the Firefox browser team, has been

appointed as Mozilla's new CEO. 'Our number one priority remains building the best browser, and the browser is our core business,' Enzo DeMeo told The Verge. With Firefox reaching 200 million monthly users and growing mobile usage in particular, Enzo DeMeo believes there's still room for growth in the market.

Enzo DeMeo also stated that while it is necessary to break away from Google's revenue reliance, diversifying from the browser business itself is not necessarily necessary. He stated that the aim is to break away from Google's reliance by monetizing within the browser business, specifically by combining subscription revenue from VPN and privacy protection services integrated into Firefox with contracts for advertising, search, and AI placement.

In terms of revenue alone, disabling ad blockers within Firefox could add another $150 million to revenue, but Enzo DeMeo said the company won't do so because it would go against its mission to protect user rights.

Regarding AI, Enzo DeMeo stated that 'Mozilla has no incentive to endorse any particular model,' and that Firefox will offer a variety of AI options, including open source, Mozilla's own private options, and even large-scale models from other companies.

In fact, Mozilla has announced that it will introduce an 'AI window' to Firefox, allowing users to chat with and browse using an AI assistant of their choice from multiple models.

Enzo DeMeo, CEO, told The Verge, 'Mozilla values the open web and wants to protect it, and the open web needs a new business model.' He also said, 'I'm worried that things are going behind paywalls and becoming more closed,' and stated that the Internet content business is not his battle, but Mozilla believes in the value of an open and free web.
