Apple released its financial results for the third quarter of 2025 (April-June) on Thursday, July 31, 2025. According to the report, Apple reported revenue of $94 billion (approximately ¥14 trillion), a 10% increase from the previous year. CEO Tim Cook also announced during a conference call with investors that Apple will significantly increase its investment in AI going forward.

Apple's revenue for the third quarter of fiscal year 2025 increased approximately 9.6% year-over-year to $94.036 billion (approximately 14.18 trillion yen). Net income increased 9.2% year-over-year to $23.434 billion (approximately 3.53 trillion yen), and gross profit increased 10.1% year-over-year to $43.718 billion (approximately 6.59 trillion yen).

By division, product sales increased from $61,564 million (approximately 9,230 billion yen) in the same period last year to $66,613 million (approximately 9,990 billion yen), and service sales increased from $24,213 million (approximately 3,630 billion yen) in the same period last year to $27,423 million (approximately 4,110 billion yen).
Looking at the breakdown by product category, iPhone sales increased from $39,296 million (approximately ¥5,890 billion) in the same period last year to $44,582 million (approximately ¥6,690 billion), and Mac sales also increased from $7,090 million (approximately ¥1,050 billion) to $8,046 million (approximately ¥1,210 billion). Meanwhile, iPad sales increased from $7,162 million (approximately ¥1,070 billion) in the same period last year to $6,581 million (approximately ¥990 billion), and wearable home and accessories also decreased from $8,097 million (approximately ¥1,210 billion) to $7,404 million (approximately ¥1,110 billion).

By region, all regions recorded sales increases compared to the same period last year. The Americas increased from $37,678 million to $41,198 million, Europe increased from $21,884 million to $24,014 million, and Greater China increased from $14,728 million to $15,369 million. The Japanese market also saw sales increase, increasing from $5,097 million to $5,782 million, and the rest of the Asia-Pacific region increased from $6,390 million to $7,673 million.

During the earnings conference call, CEO Tim Cook announced, 'iPhone has reached a new milestone of shipping 3 billion units since its launch in 2007.' Incidentally, iPhone shipments reached 1 billion in July 2016, and while the timing for reaching 2 billion has not been disclosed, it is said to be around September 2021 .

Cook also stated, 'We believe AI is one of the most profound technologies in our lives, and we're embedding it across every device, platform, and company. We're also significantly expanding our investments,' revealing that the company will be focusing more on its AI business than ever before. Speaking to CNBC , Cook said, 'We're open to M&A to accelerate our roadmap,' indicating his willingness to actively acquire AI-related companies.

While companies like Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Mistral AI are competing to develop AI, Apple is also offering services that emphasize AI, such as Apple Intelligence. However, when it comes to AI development, Apple is inevitably at a disadvantage. With AI research talent also fiercely competing with other companies, it will be interesting to see what strategy Apple will adopt.
