Samsung suspends global release of 'One UI 7' due to serious bugs discovered that make it impossible to unlock smartphones

Samsung launched its new AI-enabled interface, One UI 7 , for its Galaxy series smartphones on April 7, 2025, but it has been reported that One UI 7 update distribution has suddenly stopped. It is believed that this is due to a large number of 'serious bugs' reported by users who have installed One UI 7.

Ice Universe, a well-known Samsung product informant, reported on April 14, 2025 that 'suddenly, after the firmware for the Galaxy S24 series was released, a serious bug was discovered, suspending the release plan in all other countries, including China.' According to other reports, bug reports were particularly high in the Galaxy S24 series sold in Korea, but Samsung appears to have suspended the global rollout for safety reasons.

According to SamMobile, a Samsung product information site, there are no major issues with One UI 7, but there are problems with the Galaxy's unique security feature ' Security Folder '. The Security Folder is a folder that can keep images, videos, and apps safe by requiring a password to access them even when the device is unlocked, and data in the Security Folder cannot be transferred to other devices via USB, Wi-Fi Direct, etc.

However, in One UI 7, the contents inside the Secure Folder could be accessed and viewed from outside.

One UI 7 has a feature that allows you to create 'Stories' from the 'Gallery' app, which manages images you have taken and saved. When a story is created, a notification is displayed, but a notification is also sent for stories created in the Gallery in the Security Folder, and by tapping the notification, you can view the story even if you are not accessing the Security Folder.

Auto-generation of stories can be turned off in the Gallery settings, so you can avoid security issues by changing the settings in the Gallery in the Security folder.

SamMobile also reported that some Galaxy S24 users were unable to unlock their phones after installing One UI 7.

At the time of writing, Samsung stated, 'The One UI 7 rollout schedule has been updated to provide the best experience. We will announce the new release and availability dates soon.' They acknowledged that the rollout had been paused, but did not disclose the reason for the pause.
