AI company Perplexity reports it is developing its own web browser, 'Comet'

AI startup Perplexity has announced that it will soon release an agent search browser called Comet .

On February 25, 2025, Perplexity announced that it would soon be releasing a proprietary browser called 'Comet,' which it calls an 'agent search browser.'

At the time of writing, the design and details of the browser that Perplexity is developing are unknown. When TechCrunch contacted Perplexity directly, a spokesperson responded, 'Just as Perplexity reinvented search, we are reinventing the browser. Stay tuned for updates.'

TechCrunch said of Comet, 'Perplexity will join a highly competitive browser field. In addition to existing web browsers like Chrome, there are countless other web browsers. Many of them, like The Browser Company's upcoming Dia , have AI capabilities comparable to Perplexity's. 'Perplexity may be betting that by leveraging the search engine's user base, it can grow Comet rapidly and deal some damage to the field.'

After the announcement of Comet, Perplexity posted, 'We are actively recruiting people to help us develop Comet,' and is looking for engineers and analysts.
