On January 23, President Trump ordered relevant government agencies to develop a plan for the release of all government records related to the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr.

The National Archives of the United States will reportedly officially close its investigation into the Kennedy assassination in 2023, with 99% of the approximately 320,000 records already available to the public.

In response, former President Joe Biden released a memorandum certifying that the Archivist had completed his investigation and that the remaining documents cleared for declassification had been released to the public within a pre-established deadline.

However, as of the time of Biden's review, 2,140 documents remained fully or partially sealed. In addition, 2,502 documents were sealed outside the president's authority due to court orders or jury confidentiality regulations. In addition, 42 documents remain withheld in their entirety for various reasons.

'This is a big deal. A lot of people have been waiting for this for years, even decades,' President Trump said as he signed the executive order on the declassification in the Oval Office.

He also pointed to the pen he used to sign the petition and said, 'Please give this to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.', referring to Kennedy, the nephew of the assassinated John F. Kennedy and son of Robert F. Kennedy, who is a cabinet candidate for the head of the Department of Health and Human Services in the Trump administration.

According to The New York Times, President Trump has been inclined towards conspiracy theories about the November 1963 assassination of President Kennedy, and has even claimed that Senator Ted Cruz, who ran for the Republican nomination in the 2016 Republican primary, had ties to the assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is also said to believe in conspiracy theories surrounding his uncle's death, and once said of President Kennedy's assassination, 'There is overwhelming evidence that the CIA was involved in his assassination.'

The order requires the Director of National Intelligence and the Attorney General to submit to the President, within 15 days of its signing, a plan for the complete and full release of records related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Similarly, a plan for the release of records relating to the assassinations of Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. will be developed within 45 days.
