According to the foreign media Mashable, the movement to ban X links started on the subreddit 'r/hockey,' which has about 2.7 million users.
The initiative has since spread to subreddits related to the Premier League and NFL, sparking debate over whether it should even be implemented.
At the center of the controversy is Elon Musk's ' Nazi salute ' during President Donald Trump's inauguration speech on January 20, 2025.

In this way, users who are disgusted by Musk's actions at the presidential inauguration, his daily behavior, and Musk's management policy of X are banning links to X on Reddit.
On the other hand, a Reddit spokesperson said, 'Reddit has a long-standing commitment to free speech and freedom of association. The decision to ban or not ban linking to X rests with our users. Subreddit members are also allowed to propose and freely establish rules for the subreddits they participate in.' The spokesperson acknowledged that Reddit will not officially respond to link bans to X that are widespread on Reddit, and that the link ban does not violate Reddit's rules .
In addition, some subreddits have announced that they will ban links to Facebook, Instagram, and other sites, citing Meta's decision to end independent fact-checking in the US, as it 'openly promotes prejudice.'
X has not commented on this matter.
