In a statement, the White House declared, 'The previous Administration corrupted every agency and office of the Federal Government by instilling deeply unpopular, inflationary, illegal, and radical practices, by dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and replacing hard work, merit, and equality with a divisive and dangerous system of preferential treatment,' and announced the repeal of a total of 78 executive orders and memoranda.
Among the executive orders that were repealed was Executive Order 14110, '
The order requires the government to establish guidelines for AI safety and security and instructs the government to take measures to address the risk of AI misuse related to CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons).
The executive order also required AI developers to submit safety test results to the government, a rule criticized by supporters of President Trump, who said the reporting requirements were onerous and effectively forced the disclosure of trade secrets.
The Republican Party's policy platform prepared for the presidential election called for the repeal of the executive order, arguing that the regulation hinders AI innovation, and included the statement, 'Republicans support the development of AI that is rooted in free speech and human flourishing.'
Other executive orders the White House announced it would revoke include:
- Executive Order 13985 dated January 20, 2021 (Promoting Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government)
- Presidential Decree No. 13988 dated January 20, 2021 (Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation)
- Executive Order 14012 dated February 2, 2021 (Restoring Faith in the Legal Immigration System and Strengthening the Integration and Inclusion of New Americans)
- Executive Order 14020 dated March 8, 2021 (Establishing the White House Gender Policy Council)
Presidential Decree No. 14021 dated March 8, 2021 (Ensuring an educational environment free of discrimination on the basis of sex, including sexual orientation and gender identity)
- Executive Order 14031 dated May 28, 2021 (Advancing Equality, Justice, and Opportunity for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders)
- Executive Order 14035 dated June 25, 2021 (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in the Federal Workforce)
- Executive Order 14049 dated October 11, 2021 (White House Initiatives on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Native Americans and Strengthening Tribal Colleges and Universities)
- Executive Order 14050 dated October 19, 2021 (White House Initiatives on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Black Americans)
- Presidential Decree No. 14075 dated June 15, 2022 (Promoting Equality for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex People)
- Executive Order 14124 dated July 17, 2024 (White House Initiatives on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity through Hispanic-Serving Institutions)
In a separate statement released the same day, the White House declared that it would ' eliminate radical and wasteful government DEI programs and priority systems, ' and ordered the review and abolition of DEI programs implemented by government agencies. The White House also announced that it would ' protect women from gender ideological extremism and restore biological truth to the federal government, ' and that gender terminology used in government agencies would be reverted to a definition based on birth sex rather than gender identity.
