Grok may soon get an 'Unhinged Mode' | TechCrunch
Grok is an AI developed by xAI, a company owned by Musk, and implemented in X, also owned by Musk, for use by users.
The possibility of a new mode being added to this Grok has been strengthened. The following is written in the 'What is Grok?' section of the FAQ for users published by xAI:
'Grok is designed to give friendly, insightful answers to any question, with a touch of wit and humor. In addition to the regular mode, other modes such as 'Fun' mode and 'Unhinged' mode may be available as beta. Fun mode is a unique and entertaining companion with a rebellious side and jokes. Unhinged mode is meant to be obnoxious, inappropriate and offensive, like an amateur comedian who hasn't learned his act yet.'
Originally, Grok was introduced as 'an AI with a bit of wit and a cheeky side, inspired by the science fiction novel ' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, '' setting it apart from existing serious AI, but there is the potential for it to become even more violent.
The existence of the Unhinged mode itself was made public when Musk mentioned it in May 2024, but the details of it were not revealed.
