A mockup of what is said to be the 'successor to the Nintendo Switch' was exhibited at the world's largest technology trade fair,

CES 2025 , held in Las Vegas. The mockup was exhibited by peripheral manufacturer Genki , and the features of the next-generation console's controller were also revealed.

Below is a photo of the 'Nintendo Switch successor mockup' taken by overseas media The Verge. The button layout of the controller is almost identical to that of the Nintendo Switch, but a square button has been added to the bottom of the right controller.

Here's a comparison of the mockup (above) and

the Steam Deck OLED (below).

The thickness is like this.

In the Nintendo Switch, the Joy-Con are connected to the console with a sliding rail, and the removal procedure is to 'press the button on the back of the Joy-Con to unlock it and slide it to remove it.' The successor to the Nintendo Switch will use a magnet to connect the Joy-Con, and the removal button will be larger than that of the Nintendo Switch, and you will need to press it to remove it.

When you press the release button, the locking mechanism on the side of the controller will operate as shown below.

This allows for easy attachment and detachment with magnets while still providing stability that won't come off easily. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai commented, 'The controller for the successor model can be removed without pressing the removal button if you apply force, but it won't come off if you use it normally.'

Tsai also commented that the next-generation console's controller will have a built-in optical sensor, which could potentially provide mouse-like functionality when combined with a separately sold attachment.

Tsai did not reveal where he got the information about the next-generation console.
