Samsung has announced that it plans to implement Eclipsa Audio in its entire 2025 TV lineup, from its entry-level Crystal UHD series to its top-of-the-line Neo QLED 8K TVs, to create a 3D acoustic experience that can adjust the position, intensity, and spatial reflection of sound.

In addition, from 2025, YouTube will also be able to upload Eclipse Audio-compatible content, allowing users of compatible devices to enjoy a premium spatial audio experience.

In terms of quality, Samsung is working with the Korea Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) to develop a certification program that will ensure consistent sound quality standards across all Eclipsa Audio-enabled devices. 'This innovation will open up new possibilities for immersive audio experiences and shape the future of home entertainment,' said Son Tae-young, vice president of Samsung's video display business division.

Eclipsa Audio was

announced in 2023 as the ' Immersive Audio Model and Formats (IAMF)' and has been adopted by the Alliance for Open Media, which includes Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Netflix, and others. At the time of the announcement, Nam Woo-hyun, head of Samsung's spatial audio division, said, 'This IAMF will be a complete open source framework for 3D audio, from production to distribution and playback.'

The Verge, an IT news site, points out that if companies in the Alliance for Open Media add support for Eclipse Audio, its adoption could accelerate, but at the same time, it also cites concerns over the slow adoption of AV1 , a video codec promoted by the group.

'Eclipsa Audio has the potential to change the way we experience sound,' said James Bancoski, vice president of engineering at Google, and said he looks forward to seeing how the creator community creates innovative audio experiences.

In addition, it has been reported that Google is working on a project called 'Project Caviar' to develop an open media format to compete with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. It is unclear whether the results of Project Caviar are included in the newly announced Eclipsa Audio.
