The 2024 US presidential election is a contest between Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate who is the vice president under the Biden administration and aims to be the first woman to become president, and Donald Trump, who served one term as president since 2016 and is aiming to become the second person in 132 years to return to the presidency after losing an election. At the time of writing, the vote counting has not yet been completed, but Trump has won in the battleground states of North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, securing the electoral votes necessary to win.
