It turns out that Russia imported 460 billion yen worth of servers equipped with NVIDIA AI chips, which are banned by the US, via India

The United States has restricted the export of NVIDIA's AI chips to Russia due to concerns that they could be used for military purposes. However, since export restrictions to Russia cannot be imposed from every country in the world, it has been found that AI chips are being sent to Russia via Malaysia and India. Just from April to August 2024, 1,111 Dell PowerEdge XE9680 servers equipped with NVIDIA's 'H100' chips, with a market value of $300 million (approximately 46 billion yen), were exported from India to Russia.

While the United States and EU countries are cautious about exporting military-use technology and products to Russia, India is not a member of these frameworks and therefore has no restrictions on exports to Russia.

For example, a company called Shreya Life Sciences was found to have exported a total of 1,400 Dell PowerEdge XE9680 servers equipped with NVIDIA AI chips between April and August 2024. The market value of these servers is estimated to be $300 million.

Shreya Life Sciences was founded in Moscow in 1995 and expanded into India in 2001. It was originally a pharmaceutical company that exported medicines to Russia, but in 2024 it appears to have also started exporting servers.

The servers were ordered by a Dell subsidiary in Malaysia, exported to India by a subsidiary in Singapore, and then 're-sold' from India to Russia.

In addition, it seems that Shreya Life Sciences is not the only one to export such products, and the two companies, Shreya and Hayers Infotech Private Limited, have exported high-tech products to Russia since February 2022 worth $434 million (about 66.5 billion yen).
