The original 'Choco Nuts 3' that inspired the development of Black Thunder has been revived, so I tried it.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the release of Yuraku Confectionery's Black Thunder, ' Choco Nuts 3 ' was released on Monday, September 30, 2024. Unlike Black Thunder, which is known for its crunchy texture, this snack was well-received for its light texture of three types of nuts and puffs and became a mainstay in 1994, so we decided to try it.

What!? The product that became the basis for Black Thunder!? 'Choco Nuts 3' is making a comeback! | News | Yuraku Confectionery

This is Choco Nuts 3.

The package explained how Black Thunder was developed in pursuit of a concept opposite to Choco-Nuts 3.

It contains 3.3% coconut, 1.8% almonds, and 1.1% cashew nuts.

In addition to the three types of nuts, the ingredients list includes cocoa powder, cocoa mass, corn puffs, wheat puffs, etc.

The calorie content is 95kcal per 17g.

This is what it looks like when you take it out of the bag.

When lined up next to the regular Black Thunder (left), you can see that Choconut 3 (right) is slightly lighter in color and the grains of the puffs are clearly visible from above the chocolate.

Below is a comparison of the cross sections of the chocolate bar cut into pieces. While the Black Thunder contains biscuits and cocoa cookies, the Choconut 3 contains nuts and puffs.

When you take a bite, the crispy texture, the aroma of nuts, and the aroma of wheat from the puffs spread in your mouth. The taste of the chocolate is a supporting role that enhances the flavor of the nuts and puffs, and it is a light chocolate bar that is the polar opposite of Black Thunder, which is characterized by its strong sweetness and gritty texture accentuated by the bitterness of the cocoa cookies.

Choconuts 3 will be on sale exclusively at 100 yen shops nationwide from Monday, September 30, 2024.
