James Cameron, director of Avatar and Titanic, joins the board of directors of Stability AI, developer of image generation AI Stable Diffusion

James Cameron, known for directing the films ' Avatar ,' ' Titanic ,' and ' Terminator ,' has been appointed as a director of Stability AI, the developer of image generation AI Stable Diffusion. It was announced on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Cameron, a well-known film director and producer, has won numerous awards, including three Academy Awards and two Emmy Awards. Cameron is known for his computer-generated CGI images, and has created images that combine live action and CG in many of his works, including 'Terminator 2,' 'The Abyss,' 'Titanic,' and 'Avatar.'

'The addition of Cameron marks a major step forward in Stability AI's mission to transform visual media,' said Stability AI. Stability AI CEO Prem Akkaraju commented, 'Cameron lives in the future and is waiting for us to catch up. Stability AI's mission is to transform visual media for the next century by providing creators with a full-stack AI pipeline to bring their ideas to life,' and emphasized that Cameron's participation is a monumental event for the entire AI industry. He added, 'The next frontier in visual media will be built by the true fusion of artists and technology. Stability is leading the way.'

Cameron also answered an interview with the economic media CNBC together with CEO Akkaraju, saying, 'I've known Stability AI Chairman Sean Parker and CEO Akkaraju since they were owners of a video company in New Zealand.
