In 2019, Brin and Page announced their intention to step down as CEOs of Google. At the time, they said, 'Alphabet, Google, and other companies are operating effectively independently, so now is the time to simplify our management structure. When we thought about what a better way to run our companies was, Alphabet and Google no longer need 'two CEOs and one president.'' At the time of writing, Sundar Pichai was CEO of both Alphabet and Google.

It was later reported that Brin would return to Google in 2023 to continue developing Google's large-scale conversational language model, LaMDA .

Then, on September 11, 2024, during an interview at the All-In Summit, Brin officially confirmed that he had returned to Google and revealed that he works there 'almost every day.'

Brin said the reason for this is that 'I have never seen anything as exciting as recent advances in AI, and I don't want to miss out on the progress.' Regarding recent AI, Brin said, 'There is a view that 'powerful computing capabilities are needed to strengthen AI systems,' but I believe that a significant scale-up in computing to train powerful AI is not necessary because the improvements in algorithms over the past few years have outpaced the increase in the amount of computing required for recent AI models.'

In addition, Brin's position within Google was not revealed in this interview. In addition, foreign media Arnoldit has pointed out that Brin may appear as a witness in antitrust trials over Google's market dominance.
