Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu stated, 'We have warned Instagram about certain violations. If Instagram ignores legal rules and public sensitivities, we will actively intervene,' and 'We are in contact with Instagram, and we will immediately unblock it if Instagram complies with our requests. There are laws and rules in this country.' The reason why the Turkish government blocked Instagram is that the country has taken a pro-Hamas stance in the conflict between Israel and the armed group Hamas.

The Istanbul Bar Association has issued a statement saying that the Turkish government's blocking of access to Instagram is illegal. The Istanbul Bar Association stressed that 'the Turkish government's decision to block access to social media platforms could have a domino effect, causing commercial damage to many individuals and institutions.' In addition, it pointed out that blocking access to Instagram violates the 'right to freedom of thought and expression' protected by Articles 25 and 26 of the Turkish Constitution and Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).




In fact, a Turkish law professor and cyber rights activist has filed a lawsuit against the government, arguing that blocking Instagram violates rights protected by Turkish law.

Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Uraloglu, said that the blockage will be lifted immediately if Instagram complies with Turkish regulations and laws. He also revealed that Turkish government authorities met with Instagram representatives twice, in the first week of August 2024 and on August 5, to discuss the current situation.
