Obara entered the entertainment industry when she joined the children's theater group 'Niji no Hashi' when she was in elementary school. After entering college, she left the entertainment industry for a while, but continued acting, and returned to the early days of commercial TV dramas. After that, she also became involved in dubbing, a new type of work. In particular, after she got married, it became difficult to participate in work in rural areas, so she began taking on more dubbing jobs.

He also began working in animation, voiced the main characters Prince Dolphin and Marine in 'Dolphin Prince,' which aired in the 1960s, and its sequel, 'Marine, Boy Under the Sea.'

In 'Doraemon,' she played Nobita's mother, Tamako, in the Nippon Television version that aired in 1973, and Nobita Nobi in the TV Asahi version that began airing in 1979. She supported the series with Nobuyo Oyama as Doraemon, Michiko Nomura as Shizuka, Kaneta Kimotsuki as Suneo, and Kazuya Tatekabe as Gian, until the cast was completely renewed in 2005.

She also played the female boss role as Marjo in 'Time Bokan' which aired from 1975, and Doronjo in 'Yatterman' until the series ended in 1983. The female boss calls her subordinates 'Sukapontan' for their mistakes, but this coined word was ad-libbed by Obara, who thought the insults in the original script were too harsh.

The trio consisting of Obara, his subordinate Joji Yanagida who played the brains, and Kazuya Tatekabe who played the power, also played the three villains in 'Time Bokan 2000: Kiramekiman, the Mysterious Thief' which aired in 2000.

With Tatekabe's death in 2015 and Yanagi taking a break, the three villains no longer appear together, but Obara appeared as Doronjo in 'Yatterman Night,' which aired in 2015 and featured the descendants of the Doronbo Gang as the main characters.

Besides her work as a voice actress, she is also actively involved in lectures and reading aloud, and has even released a reading CD which she produced and performed herself.
