Nokia realizes world's first 'immersive video calling' using spatial audio

Following the introduction of '4G (fourth generation mobile communication system)' in 2006, the introduction of '5G (fifth generation mobile communication system)' has been progressing since around 2018. For a long time, voice calls have been compressed into a single channel, and sound has come from a single direction. However, 5G-Advanced introduces a codec for low-latency 'Immersive Voice and Audio Services (IVAS)' to provide a spatially expanding voice experience.

Nokia demonstrated a video call using this IVAS technology. CEO Lundmark said, 'We have demonstrated the future of voice calling.
