I tried 'Monster Papillon,' whose peach flavor cleverly masks the feeling of an energy drink.

The energy drink 'Monster Energy' series will be joined by a new product, ' Monster Papillon ,' made with peach juice. Starting the week of Monday, May 20, 2024, product sampling will be conducted in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka, so I tried the actual product that was sent to me.

I compared 'Monster Papillon' and regular 'Monster Energy' side by side. Papillon uses less than 10% fruit juice, and Monster Energy has no fruit juice.

The pull tab part looks like this, and the Papillon is orange.

The name Monster Papillon comes from the 'butterfly effect,' in which the flapping of a small butterfly's wings can trigger a major event.

Here are the ingredients. The first ingredient in both drinks is sugar, followed by fruit juice (apple, peach, pear, pineapple, mango, banana). Both drinks are 355ml in volume, and Papillon has 42kcal of energy per 100ml, so one bottle contains 149.1kcal. In addition, both drinks contain 40mg of caffeine per 100ml, but the amount of L-arginine is 52mg per 100ml for Papillon and 125mg for Monster Energy, so there are subtle differences.

When poured into a glass, Monster Papillon was an opaque orange color. When you drink it, you get the impression that the sticky sweetness of 'this is an energy drink' that you feel straight in Monster Energy is skillfully wrapped up in the flavor of fruit juice, mainly peach. After drinking it, there is a slight energy drink-like feel, but it is so easy to drink that it is not surprising that some people who say 'energy drinks don't like the unique flavor' say 'I can drink Monster Papillon'.

Monster Papillon will be released on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, and will cost 213 yen (excluding tax).

At Rakuten Ichiba shops, a 24-can set is available for preorder at 4,950 yen (tax included). At 206.25 yen (tax included) per can, it's a bit of a bargain.
