The interview was conducted by Editor-in-Chief Nilay Patel .

According to the audio, the interview lasted nearly an hour, during which Narayan answered a variety of questions, including one about AI.

Narayan, who has a long history in the industry, has witnessed paradigm shifts such as mobile and desktop publishing, so Patel asked, 'Is AI also a paradigm shift?'

To this, Narayan responded as follows:

'I think AI is something we've been working on for a long time. Computers are good at pattern matching. And they're good at automating inefficient tasks. Generative AI, which is what people are talking about, I think, is being able to start the whole process, whether it's an interface where you talk to a computer or you're trying to create something.'

'When you think about what it would mean for computers to be able to talk, to reason, to think, and so on, and you look at the amount of energy, the amount of capital, the amount of talent that's been put into it, I think AI is going to be fundamental. The move to mobile and the move to cloud were split into separate energy and investments, but with AI it's almost all focused on generative AI and what it means.'

Patel also pointed out that 'Microsoft and Google might be able to create new business models through a paradigm shift brought about by AI, but that is not the case for Adobe.' In response, Narayan responded, 'I think that any change in technology has the same impact in that it creates a tailwind.'

He then went on to look at the future, saying, 'I think generative AI is going to attract a whole new audience who probably haven't invested the time and energy into using storytelling tools until now.'

Patel also asked about the proliferation of AI content, to which Narayan responded that in an age where content is overflowing, the challenge for creatives is how to put soul into their content and make it stand out and differentiate itself.
