Apple sued stealth startup Rivos in May 2022, accusing it of poaching engineers with access to sensitive company information.

Rivos operates in stealth mode , hiding business details to hide information from competitors, but the company's job postings reveal that it was recruiting silicon engineers. As a result, Apple sued Rivos, claiming that ``Rivos is plotting to design an SoC that will compete with Apple silicon by poaching Apple engineers and accessing confidential information.''

In the complaint, Apple claims, ``Beginning in June 2021, Rivos began a systematic campaign targeting Apple employees with access to proprietary information and trade secrets related to Apple's SoC designs.'' Apple explains that it sent a letter to Rivos explaining the ``nondisclosure agreement that former employees signed with Apple,'' but it seems that they did not receive a response from Rivos.

Apple claims that employees recruited by Rivos stole ``several GB of confidential information regarding SoC specifications and designs'' using AirDrop, Time Machine , etc. In addition, Apple claimed that two former employees recruited by Rivos stole confidential information.

In response, Rivos filed a countersuit in September 2023, alleging that ``Apple used intimidation and other tactics to prevent engineers from retiring.''

Then, on February 9, 2024, documents filed by Apple in California federal court revealed that the company had reached a settlement with Rivos. Apple and Rivos said, ``We have signed an agreement that may resolve the lawsuit,'' explaining that they have reached a settlement. This agreement will allow Apple to investigate Rivos' systems and recover the company's confidential information that may have been stolen.

Reuters, which first reported on the settlement between Apple and Rivos, has asked both companies for comment on the settlement, but had not received a response at the time of writing.
