HDMI cables are almost indispensable for audio and video equipment such as home televisions and PCs, but not just anyone can manufacture them, and they must be certified by a standards management organization.

Taiwanese police arrested three operators in Kaohsiung, Taichung, and Tainan for manufacturing counterfeit products without certification, and seized a total of 3,037 cables. It was announced that most of the products seized this time were procured from Chinese suppliers.

According to industry statistics from August 2022, there have been nearly 30 cases of counterfeit HDMI cables as of the time of writing, causing losses of 4 billion New Taiwan dollars (approximately 19 billion yen) in Taiwan alone. That's what he said.

By law, anyone who knowingly sells counterfeit goods, or who possesses, displays, exports, or imports counterfeit goods with the intent to sell them, is subject to imprisonment for up to one year, detention, or a fine. Police say that as a way to avoid purchasing counterfeit or inferior products, check to see if the manufacturer is genuine on the official HDMI website, or if a QR code is displayed that indicates the manufacturer is an authorized manufacturer.
